A USDA rule change went into effect Thursday requiring California to change the way meat and poultry packaging is weighed. It requires inspectors to use a dry tare form of testing in which all fluids within a package must be credited as part of its content. Tare is the weight of packaging and all materials, tags, clips, stickers, absorbent soakers. Consumers could be paying more for less meat at the market.

First Avenue zone change delayed. Owners of property at 1020-1026 First Avenue have three more months to work out a compromise for use of the property, with six condominiums in development, in an area zoned as single family residential. Arcadia staffers have found a number of areas where the city general plan and zoning map do not agree in designation.

Santa Anita Avenue carries 33,000 cars a day. If a train bridge is not built, the road will be blocked about every five minutes during rush hour. Measure A would allocate $8 million to build a Gold Line train bridge for the Gold Line extension. The bond measure would cost property taxpayers about $7 per year for every $100,000 of assessed valuation. Although the bond measure has many vocal supporters, this city has traditionally resisted new taxes.
