Arcadia Vietnam War Monument placed in Arcadia County Park. It is 22,000 pounds. From 1966-1972, 14 U.S. servicemen from Arcadia became casualties of the war in Vietnam. Fisher family reunion celebrated during Monrovia Day. Forty-four descendants of Julian Fisher and Gladys Fisher are still around in this area. Julian Fisher was Monrovia's first African American police officer and his father was recruited to come work on Lucky Baldwin's race horses. Julian and Gladys Fisher had 11 children.

Arcadia’s iconic windmill restoration almost complete. Mid-November slated as tentative schedule for installation. The former Van De Kamp windmill atop what is now Denny’s, was restored once, but broke in a freak accident. The current restoration is being done by Joe Sargis and his company Creative Fabrication and Design on St. Joseph Street in Arcadia.

Congressional Gold Medal of Honor presented to Sierra Madre Nisei soldier Shoso Nomura, age 93. It has been 68 years since Nomura served as a Japanese-American intelligence officer for the U.S. Army in World War II. He was born on Lucky Baldwin's daughter Anita Baldwin's ranch (corner of Foothill Boulevard and Double Drive--known today as Santa Anita Avenue).

Historical background on plans to build a performing arts auditorium in Arcadia, starting in 1977-1978. The Arcadia Auditorium Foundation (AAF) was formed by Charles Gilb, Gloria Horstman and Joe Sargis. The building did not come to fruition but the money has supported music programs at Arcadia Unified School District over the years. Now that Measure I is funding a Performing Arts Center at Arcadia High School, the AAF will fund the ending expenses of the construction. Arcadia Mayor Gary Kovacic has been a long-time advocate of an auditorium. See hard copy in VF "Arcadia Performing Arts Center."
