Three city-owned lots at 521 N. First Avenue, adjacent to the Foothill Freeway, were sold last week by the Arcadia City Council to the W. D. Wilson Co., which will construct a building on the site and move from its present location in South Pasadena. James J. Melas, president of the W. D. Wilson Co. and an Arcadia resident said his firm deals in sophisticated biomedical supplies and unusual alloys and fittings for medical instruments. Selling price was $41,500. The city originally purchased the lots from the state Department of Highways for $33,000.

Foothill Workforce allocation of funds to South Bay continues to raise eyebrows in Monrovia. Monrovia has filed an application to withdraw from the Foothill Workforce Development Board (FWDB), which distributes federal money for job skills assessment, basic education, job training, job placement, and community workforce development. The FWDB covers Sierra Madre, Monrovia, Arcadia, Pasadena, South Pasadena, and Duarte.

It stands for Electronic Development Gateway. Traces of history of the brick building on North First which was recently torn down. Built in the mid-1920's, it housed a restaurant, laundry, and various newspapers including the Tribune. Eventually the Post Office took over the entire building.

Another homeless village set to open in Baldwin Park. 16-unit tiny home complex will house families in need. It's called Serenity Homes, 13167 Garvey Avenue in Baldwin Park. Senator Susan Rubio, D-West Covina, celebrated the opening with elected officials from all over the San Gabriel Valley, including from Arcadia, Azusa, Glendora, La Puente, Monrovia, San Marino, South Pasadena, Temple City and Mount San Antonio College. It is the second tiny homes village opening in Baldwin Park within a year and serves as a model for how cities can expand homeless services.

The site will be used for the corporate headquarters for HTL Industries and a two story office building to be built by Jeff Jons and Jim Kuhn. Arcadia will have a Patriotic Reverse Parade and Food Drive. People will drive on the parade route and wave to the "Stars of the parade" who are stationed on the sidewalk on July 2, 2021, 9-11 AM. The "stars" include firefighters, medical and police who have helped the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Canned food donations will be accepted by Foothill Unity Center.
