On March 5, 2005, the city will hold a community art project to decorate 6 by 6 inch tiles that will be affixed to the northwest exterior wall of the Arcadia Public Library. The theme is "Arcadia is..." The project is limited to 200 tiles.

With senior citizen housing in short supply, the city redevelopment agency has tentatively endorsed construction of a 54-unit project. The location of the project is at 150 W. Las Tunas Drive, the site presently known as Marketowne Center. The complex, which will be called Heritage Park, was proposed by the developer American Senior Living.

The city has taken its first step toward condemning part of a desirable downtown block to make way for the expansion of the Rusnak Mercedes Benz. The City Council voted unanimously to move forward with eminent domain proceedings against Arcadia Self Storage, a four-story building on Huntington Drive just west of Santa Anita Avenue. This building is one of five under threat of condemnation.

The city council has decided to appropriate $35,000 toward the design of a light rail bridge over Santa Anita Avenue. This is to pay for early design work needed for an environmental impact report. The bridge project is expected to cost the city $10.7 million which may come from a bond. The Construction Authority would pay $18.4 million bringing total bridge cost to $29.1 million.

Money from a $19.9 billion statewide transportation bond approved by voters in 2006 is being used for road improvement projects. Police are using a video camera that records the violation and the violator's license plate. Violators receive a $30 citation in the mail. Police hope this will discourage unsafe practices.
