A history of the Van de Kamp's windmill atop the Denny's Restaurant currently at the northeast corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Huntington Drive. The Arcadia windmill was built nearly 40 years ago as part of an architectural movement called programmatic architecture, or roadside vernacular, wherein the buildings reflected their tenants. Landmarks are slowly disappearing along Route 66. Preservationists have kept some relics such as the historic windmill atop Denny's restaurant which dates back to its days as a Van de Kamp's coffee shop from the wrecking ball.

The fountain at Peacock Corner (southwest corner Santa Anita Avenue and Huntington Drive) is taking on a new look. Student volunteers are placing small mosaic tiles on the facade of the fountain. Local interior designer Shirley Farris volunteered to coordinate the project.

The City will pay $25,000 of city money toward putting a 10-foot tall bronze peacock at Peacock Corner, in front of Arcadia County Park, on the corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita Avenue. The sculpture will emerge from the center of the fountain at the corner. The actual cost of the sculpture and base is $36,500. The fountain was originally donated by Rotary Club 35 years ago.

An 8-foot tall bronze tribute to Arcadia's official bird, the peacock, will be unveiled August 5, as part of the city's centennial celebration. The statue will be located in the fountain at Peacock Corner, in the front of Arcadia County Park, at the southwest corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita Avenue. The sculptor of the peacock is Dave Chapple and the sculpture cost $30,000.

Residents and business owners are upset and question tree removal in the city parking lot north of Huntington Drive, east of Santa Anita Avenue, commonly called the Post Office lot. Arcadia Development Services removed over one dozen trees that were damaging pavement and irrigation systems.

A photograph only shows a 2.5-ton bronze statue of Andres Avelino Duarte, located at 1600 Huntington Drive in the city of Duarte. Duarte was the Spanish rancher and soldier that owned the 7,000 acres of land that are now the cities of Duarte, Bradbury, Monrovia, Arcadia, Azusa, Baldwin Park, and Irwindale. He called the area Rancho Azusa de Duarte.

Temple City will not try to annex an unincorporated area near Arcadia, bounded by Daines Drive on the north, Tyler Avenue on the east, West Hondo Parkway on the south and Santa Anita Avenue on the west. Temple City will continue efforts to expand the city's north and south boundaries but wanted to avoid a fight with Arcadia for this area.
