Trainers and owners found to have sent injured or retired racehorses to slaughter will be banned from running or stabling horses at Santa Anita Park under a new policy from Magna Entertainment Corporation. Santa Anita Park President Ron Charles hopes to ensure the safety of its racehorses by monitoring injured or retired horses and keeping dealers known to sell horses for slaughter off the property. The policy was entered into the track's horseman's agreement, which governs racing terms and conditions.

Next month Arcadia leaders will vote on an ordinance that takes Jessica's Law further by banning sex offenders from living within 2000 feet of certain locations, in addition to schools and parks, such as golf courses, day care centers, public libraries, and swimming pools. It would also create "child safety zones," banning sex offenders from loitering within 300 feet of the locations and it would prevent more than one sex offender from living in any single residence. Pasadena is considering a similar ordinance.

Hall of Fame jockey Laffit Pincay Jr. was awarded $2.7 million in a lawsuit against Huntington Ambulance Service. He claims that Huntington's treatment of him after a riding accident in which he broke two bones in his neck and a spinal injury, caused him to end his career.
