Arcadia opens first Veterans' Administration (VA) clinic in the San Gabriel Valley area in eight years, called the Interim San Gabriel Valley Community Based Outpatient Clinic, located at 7 West Foothill Boulevard, Arcadia. It is called interim because this is a temporary location. This is a branch of the West Los Angeles VA Hospital. In an email from Gene Glasco, elected City Clerk, after years of advocacy, this veterans health clinic had its grand opening celebration on August 23, 2019.

Monrovia man Gerardo Cortez, 26, was arrested for allegedly making telephone threats to shoot adults and children with an assault rifle at schools (including Arcadia High School), the Westfield Santa Anita mall, and a hospital in the San Gabriel Valley last week. He was booked at Monrovia Police Department for five counts of felony Making Criminal Threats and five counts of False Report of an Emergency. He is to be arraigned today. What's next for cabins in Santa Anita Canyon affected by Bobcat Fire? Historic cabins dating from the early 1900s were threatened by the fire in September. The number of cabins decreased to 63 from 80. Most were built during the Great Hiking Era. The cabin owners still use the original hand-crank telephone system invented by Alexander Graham Bell. Local residents fearful after fifth fatality in Monrovia/Duarte area. Arcadia teen Gabriel Shea Carlos was shot dead at approximately 1:40 a.m. last Sunday in the 400 block of Shrode Avenue. Mourners say that is a dangerous area with at least two gangs, but Carlos was not a gang member.

Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority announced that structural work is complete for Gold Line Bridge over Interstate 210 Freeway. "The bridge can now stand on its own," said Construction Authority CEO Habib F. Balian. The bridge is a 584-linear foot, $18.6 million rail bridge that helps extend the Gold Line from Pasadena to Azusa, in this first segment.
