Gracie Gao, 57, and Steve Wang, 58, were arrested on suspicion of operating a house of prostitution on the 200 block of West Palm Avenue in Arcadia. Gao and Wang were booked on a misdemeanor charge and later released on $500 bail. The arrests at the well-kept ranch-style house surprised neighbors.

Police find woman’s body in Arcadia backyard in the 300 block of East Forest Avenue. A 76-year-old Arcadia woman was killed yesterday at her home and her vehicle was stolen. The coroner’s office has not yet identified the woman. Neighbors said she was a longtime resident with two daughters and a grandson. The motive behind the killing is unknown.

Bob Baffert, a Hall of Fame horse trainer, had a heart attack in Dubai, where he was preparing a horse named Game on Dude in the $10 million Dubai World Cup. Baffert's assistant Jim Barnes, said from Santa Anita Park, that Baffert was doing well after having three stents inserted into two arteries.

Bobcat Fire, on its 9th day in the San Gabriel Mountains, continued to grow north of the San Gabriel Valley. It had charred 38,299 acres Monday with containment at 3%. The fire has crossed to west side of Santa Anita Canyon. On Sunday, residents in Arcadia and Sierra Madre who live north of Elkins Avenue and east of Santa Anita Avenue were ordered to evacuate. About 305 homes were in the evacuation zone. Most are in Arcadia and 32 are in Sierra Madre.

The city council has decided to appropriate $35,000 toward the design of a light rail bridge over Santa Anita Avenue. This is to pay for early design work needed for an environmental impact report. The bridge project is expected to cost the city $10.7 million which may come from a bond. The Construction Authority would pay $18.4 million bringing total bridge cost to $29.1 million.

A USDA rule change went into effect Thursday requiring California to change the way meat and poultry packaging is weighed. It requires inspectors to use a dry tare form of testing in which all fluids within a package must be credited as part of its content. Tare is the weight of packaging and all materials, tags, clips, stickers, absorbent soakers. Consumers could be paying more for less meat at the market.
