Grass-sheathed homes of Indians on Rancho. Patron Reid Greer identifies this hill as just above east parking area. He points out that the tree showing in photo #628 is same as large one in flat area. Sandy Snider at Arboretum read in early newspaper that Baldwin found on the property when he bought it, "an old adobe house and Indians living in native-made homes." This photograph belongs to the Huntington Library. It is shown here for research only.

Looking east toward boat house. Two men can be seen standing at either side of entrance to boat house and a man and a lady can be seen in a row boat on lake. Boat house was reportedly built c. 1891 by E.H. Gorrill of Sierra Madre. It was destroyed on December 26, 1969 in a fire spawned by a smoldering cigarette and fanned by Santa Anita winds.

Aerial view looking west across Santa Anita Park from a position about Santa Anita Avenue just north of Huntington Drive. In the upper right portion of the photo can be seen the extensive earthwork done for the track Anita Baldwin and Joe Smoot planned to build. That vast area now is entirely built with homes and apartments and is called Santa Anita Village. Present-day Baldwin Avenue would follow the line shown by the Ranch Road bisecting the photo from right to left just east of the track abandoned by Anita Baldwin and Joe Smoot.

Stone house at 58 W. Grandview. Small girl in foreground possibly Dextra Baldwin. Anita Baldwin purchased 22 acres of her father's land for $10.00 on March 8, 1892. (see Arcadia VF-Baldwin, Anita) Anita's father built stone cottage in May 1902 on lot 7 and part of lots 8&9 in block 98 of Santa Anita Tract. (This information came from Mrs. Sharlene Cartier, who owned the house in 1973.)
