Huntington Drive looking west from near intersection of First Avenue. On NW corner is vine-covered City Hall. Open roadster has just made a left turn and is going south on First. There is a moving picture theater mid-way along street on south side with large banner advertising Charles Laughton Film. This photo belongs to the Huntington Library. Nest crossing north with dark bridge, is Santa Fe Railroad tracks; next we believe to be for a pipeline; last clearly visible crossing is for Pacific Electric Railroad tracks. Photo was taken following extreme flooding in 1938.
View east on Huntington Drive from intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Huntington Drive. Community Church on NE corner was moved in 1934 to S. First Street and became Arcadia Presbyterian Church. Two storied building on NW corner was City Hall. Large sign on south side may say: Arcadia Pharmacy.
Neat clapboard house, taken looking straight on. There are broad front stairs and solid wall enclosing porch. There is a woman and a man sitting on front stairs. House was located at NW corner of Colorado and First Avenue.
Grandstand and portion of track at Ascot Park, a racetrack built near the center of Los Angeles that offered racing from 1903-1907. It was closed due to a city ordinance forbidding gambling. Baldwin's track, Santa Anita Park, which opened in December 1907 was designed and built by the same architect that built Ascot Park: A.M. Allen. The two tracks are similar in style and are occasionally mistaken for each other. In this photo the stands are full and there are eight horses with jockeys on the track.

Pat Carlin is the small boy standing with the tire in front of service station owned and operated by his father and his aunt, J.A. and M.A. Carlin on the NE corner of First and LaPorte. This building is the same one as shown in photo #490 and which served briefly as City Hall.

There is a speaker addressing the crowd of people in front and one can notice soldiers in uniform and dignitaries seated behind the speaker. Flags displayed on the second story. Ivy covers the walls. Four columns in the front. The address of City Hall was 3 N. First Avenue, as listed in the city directory.
Thrifty Drug Store building at NW corner of Huntington Drive and First Avenue. There are no identifying signs on the building. The signs were removed after the store closed. Former site of first City Hall.
