Paul and Selma Backert, who operated a dry goods store at 221 N. First Avenue from at least 1928 to approximately 1940. They came to Los Angeles area in about 1890 and operated general merchandise stores in Newhall and Lancaster. They lived at 212 N. Myrtle in Monrovia.

The San Gabriel Mountains can be seen VERY faintly in background. Buildings at the Balloon School can be seen on either side of the truck.

Group picture of about 36 unidentified women. All appear to be wearing dresses. Part of a brick fireplace is visible. There are tables and chairs set up for a meal or party. An attached note read "Mrs. Woodward 2nd, 212 S. Third, 447-5236" so librarian has written that on the back of the photo.
Clara Baldwin Stocker is seated in the back of a motor car, wearing a hat. The man behind the steering wheel is probably her husband, Harold Stocker. There are two other unidentified people at the rear of the vehicle and one unidentified woman seated on the running board in the front right corner of the photo. Handwriting on the bottom of the photo reads, "August 11th 1914."
Clara Baldwin Stocker is seen stepping out of a motor car. She is wearing a long light colored dress with no hat. Holding onto her left arm appears to be Walter McGinley, dressed in light colored suit, shoes and holding a hat. The car appears to be the same as photo #1570.
Seven cars and trucks are pulled up to housing units at the Santa Anita Assembly Center for the Japanese and the people are busily unpacking and preparing to move in. About 19 people can be seen in the photo. The San Gabriel Mountains form a back drop.
