Construction will begin in November on the $20 million hotel-office complex on the site of the Ramada Inn, according to John Kirkpatrick, the developer. He expects that the hotel and one office building will be completed before the 1984 Olympics. The new hotel will be first class with a well-known name.
State drought. Overall California residents cut water use by 27% in June, beating governor's mandate, but some cities fall short. Arcadia's target was a 36% reduction but in June, the city achieved a 28% reduction.

Iconic Arcadia Chamber of Commerce building celebrates 50 years on November 12. A 1965 time capsule to be opened with tours of the building remodel. The building is round and all glass. Arcadia's crime drops in 2019. Compared to 2018, there was a 28% drop in residential burglaries, a 17% decrease in robberies, and an 11% reduction in assaults.

Oakwood Hotel -- Entrance to Fairy Land. Construction of Lucky Baldwin's Oakwood Hotel began in June of 1887 on the southwest corner of First Avenue and Santa Clara Street, across the tracks from the Santa Anita Depot. When completed, the two-story brick building contained 35 rooms with verandas running around both floors. In 1903 it became the first City Government headquarters, and later was the area's sporting center. It was destroyed by fire on November 26, 1911.

Arcadia voters will decide on ballot Measure I, Measure N, and Measure P on November 7, 2006. Measure N has to do with billboard-type signs. Measure I calls for residents to finance a bond if the district wants to erect new buildings for public schools. Measure P has to do with charging for parking at The Shops at Santa Anita.

Arcadia Unified School District secures $5.7M in taxpayer savings by refinancing its current bonds to current low interest rates. The bonds are from Measure I, which was originally passed by Arcadia voters November 2006.
Arcadia woman Ruixue "Serena" Shi, 37, pleaded guilty to soliciting $22.8 million in funds for a condominium and hotel project scheme. The crime is one federal count of wire fraud, which has a sentence of up to 20 years in prison. See also Arcadia Weekly, p. 3, 7, October 28, 2021.
Motel 6, which was damaged during the June 1991 Sierra Madre earthquake, is reopening. The 87 room hotel at 225 Colorado Place was gutted and completely rebuilt with new furnishings.
