Grass-sheathed homes of Indians on Rancho. Patron Reid Greer identifies this hill as just above east parking area. He points out that the tree showing in photo #628 is same as large one in flat area. Sandy Snider at Arboretum read in early newspaper that Baldwin found on the property when he bought it, "an old adobe house and Indians living in native-made homes." This photograph belongs to the Huntington Library. It is shown here for research only.

Writing on the photo indicates that it is part of Tract 12506 "Y". This tract includes San Antonio Road. Cars of the workmen are parked nearby. The Chantry Flats Road is clearly seen on the mountains in background.

One of the houses on the north cove of the lake at the Arboretum which was built for the filming of the movie "Road to Singapore," starring Bing Crosby, Dorothy Lamour, and Bob Hope. The house is up on stilts in the lake. The movie was filmed in 1940.

Arcadia's first school house which was made over from a packing shed given by Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin. This photo shows 26 people, students and teachers standing at door. It was located at corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Falling Leaf Drive. (street name later changed to Huntington Drive). Used from 1903-1907. Only Julian Fisher identified.
