Stone house at 58 W. Grandview. Small girl in foreground possibly Dextra Baldwin. Anita Baldwin purchased 22 acres of her father's land for $10.00 on March 8, 1892. (see Arcadia VF-Baldwin, Anita) Anita's father built stone cottage in May 1902 on lot 7 and part of lots 8&9 in block 98 of Santa Anita Tract. A copy of this photo appears in the March 2, 1909 Los Angeles Daily Times pt.II p.8 with the following identification: FAMILY GROUP ON THE LAKE AT SANTA ANITA. Left to right, in boat - Mr. Mathews, Mrs. F.D. Black, Mr. Stocker ("Lucky's son-in-law), Mrs. H.C. Wyatt, in white; Mrs. Stocker (Lucky's daughter) and Mrs. Scott. Clara Baldwin Stocker's home on Foothill Blvd in Arcadia. There is a large oak tree with a circle of stones. Handwriting on bottom of photo reads, "May 1915."
The Burnell estate is shown, heavily covered with what appears to be ivy growing one side of the front of the house. This was the home of George Edwin Burnell, author, lecturer and philosopher. The estate was built 1910-1912 and razed in 1961. It was located at 290 West Foothill Blvd., and encompassed 7 acres.
Seven women and three men, all faculty members of Arcadia Grammar School, seated on front steps. They have been identified by Mr. Walters, former principal. He was 82 when he identified them in 1979. First sanctuary for Arcadia Presbyterian Church. Served as a Sunday School in 1911, and as first Presbyterian Church of Arcadia beginning May 22, 1914. Located at 206 N. First Avenue.
