Twelve citizens from Arcadia raised thousands of dollars to help a woman named Yessica Hernandez Millan, 31, of Whittier, who had to bury her three children. They died in a traffic accident in Newhall on April 12. Their funeral was on Thursday, April 29. The deceased are Cynthia Hernandez, 9, Edgar Hernandez, 8, and Xochitl Hernandez, 5.

Breeders' Cup World Championships the "Super Bowl of horse racing" took place at at Santa Anita Park yesterday and Friday. Attendance was 55,123 on Saturday. Jockey Brian Hernandez, Jr., on horse Fort Larned, won the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic on Saturday, and horse Wise Dan won the $2 million Breeders' Cup Mile.

Juan L. Lorenzo, 31, of San Gabriel, was charged with one count of murder and one count of assault with deadly weapon in connection with fatal stabbing of Anthony Berry, 18, of Pomona, in the 1300 block of S. Golden West Avenue. Jose Cruz Ramirez of San Gabriel was initially also arrested, but was released. Lorenzo and Ramirez work at Money Pot Shabu Shabu restaurant and became involved in an argument with Berry. Lorenzo will be arraigned January 5, 2012.
