The Arcadia Gateway Center, considered the first major element in the city's redevelopment project, has opened. The $22 million facility is located on Huntington Drive.
Arcadia's City Council has given the final go-ahead to Stanley Gribble and Associates on the retail-office-restaurant center planned for the south side of Huntington Drive in East Arcadia.
By mid-May 1987 the buildings on the south side of Huntington in the east part of Arcadia should be all gone. 400 days after that, at the latest, there should be a shopping center on the land. By mid-May of 1989, 3 office buildings should join the shopping center according to Arcadia's city manager, Peter Kinnahan.
By December, if all goes smoothly, Arcadia's Redevelopment Agency should have evaluated, and perhaps formally accepted a specific proposal for developing the land just east of the railway crossing on Huntington Drive. The request indicates that the city prefers either retail stores, a professional office building, or a fine restaurant.
Construction will begin in September on a new district office for the Automobile Club of Southern California. The building is part of the redevelopment project on east Huntington Drive.
Arcadia may soon have a new Japanese restaurant at the Hughes Market Shopping Center on Huntington Drive. The Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit to operate a restaurant at 1121 and 1123 East Huntington Drive.

The developer of Monrovia's Huntington Oaks shopping center now has an exclusive right to negotiate with the Arcadia Redevelopment Agency to construct a $17.3 million office and restaurant complex on the south side of Huntington Drive between the railroad tracks and the east boundary of the city.

Hale Medical Center office building planned at 289 W. Huntington Drive in Arcadia breaks ground. Construction began last week on the $20 million four-story medical office building in the southern parking lot of Santa Anita Park that will connect to Arcadia Methodist Hospital via a footbridge.
Arcadia City Council has gone on record as supporting the building of a new city hall that would be built on the other side of the Civic Center property. Out of three options presented by city manager Bill Kelly, the council consensus was for a new building at a cost of $6.6 million and adjacent to Huntington Drive West.
A new 3-story office building at First Avenue and Huntington Drive should have its ground breaking ceremony before November 10, according to Warren Lortie of the development firm W.L.A. Arcon.

Arcadia's new senior center will be built at the Rose Garden at the corners of Huntington and Campus Drives. The city will start taking bids for the proposed $2.5 million, 18,000-square foot building in April. (At least 21% of the city population is over age 60.)
Arcadia will have a Patriotic Reverse Parade and Food Drive. People will drive on the parade route and wave to the "Stars of the parade" who are stationed on the sidewalk on July 2, 2021, 9-11 AM. The "stars" include firefighters, medical and police who have helped the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Canned food donations will be accepted by Foothill Unity Center.
