Mr. Dewey Butler is seen sitting on his tractor. The Mauch family knew him very well and he would use his tractor to turn the soil on their ranch as well as his own. This photo was taken at Mauch ranch at Palm Avenue and Holly Avenue. In a 1997 conversation between Carol Libby of the Arcadia Historical Society and Lynette Dunn, daughter of Dewey Butler, Mrs. Dunn stated that this photo is not of her father. She said it was possibly her uncle.

Dewey Butler's Sweet Corn Stand is shown next to the Santa Anita Motor Inn, which opened in 1938. There are four cars parked in front of the stand. Hand written note in scrapbook states, "Dewey Butler's - Golden Bantam Corn, and Melon Stand on Huntington Drive just west of the Santa Anita Motor Inn. The Sweetest corn and melon's you ever tasted, grown in the matchless soil of Old Rancho Santa Anita."
Six men are seen standing in a group. L-R:Los Angeles County Supervisor John Anson Ford, Superintendent William A. Smith, Superintendent Raymond V. Darby (Chairman), F. Wesley Davies (Manager Rancho Santa Anita, Inc.), and Superintendent Leonard J. Roach. Davies is seen handing deed to 111-acre tract of historic Rancho Santa Anita to Superintendent Darby. This was to be developed into the Arboretum.
Looking east at Arcadia Santa Fe station. Three men are standing near tracks: L-R: station agent William Kreutzkamp; Jim Raber; and Clarence Breuillot. The dog's name was Babe and was owned by the Mullens. Three other men are unloading large boxes. Mr. Kreutzkamp kept many plants around the station and some can be seen here.

There is a speaker addressing the crowd of people in front and one can notice soldiers in uniform and dignitaries seated behind the speaker. Flags displayed on the second story. Ivy covers the walls. Four columns in the front. The address of City Hall was 3 N. First Avenue, as listed in the city directory.

Southernmost tree-lined street cutting across entire middle of photo is Duarte Road. Barracks at the Balloon School can be seen just below Huntington Drive. Notice that Huntington Drive stops just west of the Balloon School, at the Baldwin Ranch. Much of Foothill area was planted to citrus.

Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin on left and Richard F. Carman Sr., one of America's early horsemen. Photo was taken probably about 1907 and printed in newspaper of March 1937 at the time of Carman's death. Carman's horses won four races and placed second in two others on opening day of Baldwin's Santa Anita Race Track.
House at 180 West Huntington Drive, Arcadia, located just north of the municipal athletic field adjacent to Arcadia City Hall. It was part of the Le Meridien hotel land but is being sold Salvation Army and moving to Pasadena. In the year 2000 this was the location of Oakcrest Adult Rehabilitation Center. In this photo, notice its house numbers in disrepair. See document "State Wars on Bookies." A house at 180 West Huntington Drive in Arcadia was raided and four men were arrested who were using binoculars to catch the race results and flashing them to bookmakers throughout the nation.
