Dr. Sheng Chang has completed his three month term as mayor of Arcadia. For this centennial year, the position of mayor is a under rotation plan approved by the city council. Gary Kovacic will now be mayor for the next three months. Dr. Sheng Chang was honored as Arcadia's first Chinese-American mayor.

9-year-old Maria Lugo came to Arcadia Arcadia Methodist Hospital from Mexico to have a steel plate removed from her chin. It was a follow-up surgery to a softball-size tumor removal she had in April, 2008, at Arcadia Methodist Hospital. Dr. Jon Tyrell, a member of LIGA International, and Dr. B.S. Chandrasekhar operated on her. LIGA International is a non-profit group of medical experts, pilots and volunteers who travel to clinics in Sinaloa, Mexico several times a year.

A proposed 739-feet bridge to span the eastbound 210 freeway diagonally from Santa Anita Avenue may become a landmark gateway sign welcoming people to the San Gabriel Valley. If Measure R funding comes through for this project, construction could begin in Fall 2010. Artists are being asked to submit proposals for the bridge design by the end of next month. Total cost of the bridge is estimated at $20 million and selected artists will receive a $20,000 budget to design the bridge.
