A $218 million school bond measure will go to voters in November, 2006. The Arcadia Board of Education voted to approve it for the ballot. The money will go to improvements and new facilities at all Arcadia schools.

Arcadia now has two patrol wagons that will be used to transport prisoners from the scene of the arrest to the station. The wagons can pick up several prisoners and book them all at once, allowing officers to spend more time in the field.
Arcadia Fire Department received Fire Engine No. 343 from the Governor's Office of Emergency Services (OES). The number is significant and it has been specially dedicated by the state to the memory of the 343 New York City firefighters who died on September 11, 2001.

Faithful fans, such as Antonio Reyes, are missing the presence of Oak Tree Racing at Santa Anita Park this year. He says he will watch on television and bet off-track. Oak Tree is running at Hollywood Park in Inglewood starting today and next year too.

Arcadia veteran Al Parker is a survivor of the Bataan Death March. More than 78,000 American and Filipino prisoners of war were herded 60 miles through Philippine jungles following Maj. Gen. Jonathan Wainwright's April 9, 1943 surrender on the island of Corrigidor.
25-year old Colleen Kay Hutchins, who represented Utah in the Miss America contest, was named Miss America Saturday night. She is one of seven children of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Hutchins of Arcadia.

In the 1920s and 1930s, Arcadia had a reputation as a poultry raising community. There were many poultry ranchers in Arcadia, including a Denmark royal family member named Prince Eric, cousin of the King of Denmark.
Arcadia Methodist Hospital celebrates its centennial. There were 30 invited guests and local dignitaries, including past chiefs of staff. The hospital began in 1903 in a 2-story house on Hewitt Street in downtown Los Angeles. It was founded by the Women's Home Missionary Society and had 5 beds.
