Residential customers of Southern California Edison (SCE) may see increases of an average of 30% or more next year because of soaring fuel prices and costs to upgrade infrastructure.
Thomas McKernan, Arcadia resident, recently retired as CEO of the Automobile Club of Southern California. He had worked with the Auto Club for 46 years. On May 1, he was succeeded by Robert Bouttier. McKernan has been elected to chairman of the Auto Club's board of directors. He will continue with several national responsibilities, including serving on the National AAA board of directors, chairing its planning and strategy effort. He will serve as vice chair of the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.
Construction will begin in September on a new district office for the Automobile Club of Southern California. The building is part of the redevelopment project on east Huntington Drive.
SCAG will conduct hearings on an area transportation plan. The results will be incorporated into a comprehensive plan for all of Southern California due to be completed April 1, 1975.
Three offices of the Automobile Club of Southern California will be combined when a new Arcadia district office opens in 1989 on Huntington Drive between Second and Fifth Streets.
The Automobile Club of Southern California will relocate its Temple City and Monrovia offices to its new facility at 420 East Huntington Drive, Arcadia, beginning October 16.
Arcadia City Council has approved a major expansion of Methodist Hospital of Southern California. The project will cost $130 million and is slated to finish by early 2009.
Arcadia resident and philanthropist Charles Huang donates $7.5 million to Methodist Hospital of Southern California. Huang is a global entrepreneur who owns Pasadena-based private equity company Pasaca Capital Inc. His gift will fund a high-tech operating room. The first fair in Southern California to concentrate on environmental education resources is to be held at the Arboretum on March 21. Workshops and exhibits will be offered throughout the day.

CEO Ikenna Mmeje begins managing USC Arcadia Hospital. Ikenna "Ike" Mmeje will lead expansion of access to specialized healthcare and research to the San Gabriel Valley while overseeing all management and operations of the hospital. The hospital was formerly Methodist Hospital of Southern California and is now run by Keck Medicine. Mmeje replaces former president and CEO Dan Ausman, who has retired. Mmeje served as CEO of both Memorial Care Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children's and Women's Hospital in Long Beach. He previously held CEO and COO roles with Tenet Healthcare.

Arcadia Methodist Hospital of Southern California and Keck Medicine of University of Southern California (USC) take next steps toward affiliation. A written notice has been submitted to the Office of the Attorney General of California for regulatory review and approval. Following regulatory approval, Methodist Hospital will officially join the Keck Medicine clinical enterprise as USC Arcadia Hospital.
