A copy of this photo appears in the March 2, 1909 Los Angeles Daily Times pt.II p.8 with the following identification: FAMILY GROUP ON THE LAKE AT SANTA ANITA. Left to right, in boat - Mr. Mathews, Mrs. F.D. Black, Mr. Stocker ("Lucky's son-in-law), Mrs. H.C. Wyatt, in white; Mrs. Stocker (Lucky's daughter) and Mrs. Scott. There are seven people seated in the boat, but only six names are identified in the newspaper article. Article is in Arcadia History file Baldwin, Elias J. House at 22 E. Foothill Blvd. It housed a dress shop called the Copy Cat from about 1967-1975. During the 1930's and a bit into the 1940's, it was operated as a popular family restaurant. Prior to the Copy Cat years (about 1952-1960), Rita Thompson had it as her real estate office.

People looking at wreckage of two autos lying in Santa Anita Wash at Huntington Drive. A Franklin and a Buick went off the narrow wood span on December 14, 1907 or 1909? Fire had burned the bridge in August and so it had no guard rails. See Arcadia VF-Streets Item #18 for description of accident.
View of Herbert's Cafe from center of Alice Street right at intersection with Santa Anita. (Main fire house for Arcadia is presently located there.) There is a wagon wheel mounted near front. It was owned by Herbert and Catherine Schmidt from 1939-1957. See Arcadia VF-Restaurants, bars, etc. for further information regarding special days and how they were celebrated here.
Photo taken from Arcadia Tribune issue of August 3, 1950 that shows Elias J."Lucky" Baldwin standing in front of Queen Anne Cottage with H.H. Cross, an artist who painted a number of important pictures of the Baldwin Ranch. Hal Roach, editor of Arcadia Tribune at this time, does not remember who brought original photo to them.
