The bodies of two missing men identified as Haang Fung Chin, also known as Edward Chin, of Arcadia and Cheuk Lun Cheung, also known as Alan Cheung, of Monterey Park were found badly charred in a desert area south of Barstow.

7-year-old Maria Lugo Rocha of Sinaloa, Mexico, is recovering after a surgery to remove a bone tumor from her chin, performed last week at Arcadia Methodist Hospital. LIGA International, a non-profit group of medical experts, pilots and volunteers, helped to bring the girl to Arcadia to have the surgery.

9-year-old Maria Lugo came to Arcadia Arcadia Methodist Hospital from Mexico to have a steel plate removed from her chin. It was a follow-up surgery to a softball-size tumor removal she had in April, 2008, at Arcadia Methodist Hospital. Dr. Jon Tyrell, a member of LIGA International, and Dr. B.S. Chandrasekhar operated on her. LIGA International is a non-profit group of medical experts, pilots and volunteers who travel to clinics in Sinaloa, Mexico several times a year.

Arcadia resident Bob Wieland, 62, lost both legs in the Vietnam War, but that didn't stop him from majoring in physical education at California State University Los Angeles. He has walked on his hands and biked across the United States, competed in 6 marathons, completed a triathlon, and set world weight-lifting records. He will be inducted into the California Powerlifting Hall of Fame today.

Arcadia County Park fountain rededicated. The fountain in the park, which is a memorial to wartime casualties, was rededicated to honor those who perished in last year's September 11th terrorist attack. The fountain is being redone and will have a bronze peacock on the top of the fountain. The renovated landmark will be called Peacock Corner.

Employees at Santa Anita Park fear bankruptcy of its parent company Magna Entertainment Corp (MEC). Chairman Frank Stronach said the horsemen would not have to worry about any of their monies. Paymaster accounts total $11 million at Santa Anita Park. The accounts contain money earmarked for winning owners, who must pay a percentage of those earnings to jockeys and trainers. Magna Entertainment Corp. has lost $500 million in the past 5 years.
