Michael Goldstein, a 40-year old former stockbroker, and his wife Bridgethave opened Goldstein's Bagel Bakery at 221 N. Santa Anita Ave. after opening the original Goldstein's in Old Pasadena 5 years ago. It is the nation's first drive through bakery.
Goldstein's Bagel Bakery will shut down on March 31 after nearly 16 years in Old Town Pasadena. Goldstein's has two other locations on Verdugo Road in La Canada Flintridge and Santa Anita Avenue in Arcadia that will remain open.
During construction on the Gold Line's Santa Anita Avenue bridge, In-N-Out Burger customers will be asked to line up their cars on Colorado Boulevard, instead of Santa Anita Avenue.
The Arcadia Planning Commission gave permission to G. Barton Payne to open a Sunshine Yogurt & Bakery at the shopping center at Duarte Road and Santa Anita Avenue, but other eating places at the same corner could be vetoed. The Commission is concerned about the impact of extra traffic at that intersection.
William Norgaard of Temple City celebrates his 106th birthday. He came from Denmark and owned the Daily Home Bakery at 1820 Marengo Street in Los Angeles for 38 years, starting in 1959. The Norgaard family lived in Los Angeles, Alhambra, Pasadena, and Arcadia over the years.
Arcadia police continue to heavily ticket cars that frequent the area around the Burger Palace on Thursday nights in an attempt to curb drag racing and curtail other potential problems. Since July 8, 202 tickets have been issued.
Denny's windmill spins again. The windmill atop Denny's at northeast corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Huntington Drive was designed by Harold Bissner as the template for Van de Kamp's Holland Dutch Bakery's coffee shop franchise. It opened in 1967 in Arcadia, the first of 15 built from his designs. Denny's bought the location in 1989. Denny's spent $100,000 refurbishing the windmill.
Iconic Arcadia windmill atop Denny's to be dedicated June 29, thanks to restoration efforts of former Arcadia mayor George Fasching and Joe Sargis. The windmill's new variable speed motor will run about 6 rotations per minute and it will be illuminated at night. Denny's is at northeast corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Huntington Drive. Iconic Arcadia windmill will turn, turn, turn. Former Arcadia Mayor George Fasching spearheaded the effort to get Denny's windmill running again. Restoration work will begin soon, with June as the target for the windmill to run again. The windmill was the trademark for Van de Kamp's Holland Dutch Bakery, which was at this site, at the corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita Avenue, in 1967.
Denny's CEO considers firing up the old windmill in 2016. It is atop the Denny's Restaurant at the corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita Avenue. It used to be the Van de Kamp's Holland Dutch Bakery, founded in 1915, a Los Angeles institution for much of the 20th century. According to Los Angeles Conservancy, the building was completed in 1967 and designed by Pasadena architects Harold Bissner and Harold Zook. Denny's Corporation CEO Stephen Dunn is happy to explore the possibility of activating the windmill.

Arcadia police wrote 99 traffic violations and made 6 arrests in an attempt to discourage street racers from meeting at the Burger Palace on West Las Tunas Drive.
National Night Out and Arcadia's 114th birthday will be celebrated with a concert in the park by the Swing Cats Big Band, and birthday cake on August 3, on the Arcadia City Hall lawn.
An application to construct a Burger King Restaurant on South Santa Anita Avenue at Alice Street was turned down by the Arcadia Planning Commission on a 4-1 vote. Commission members said they were concerned with noise and traffic problems. Residents also objected to the possibility that students from Arcadia High would congregate and make noise at the restaurant following evening sporting events.
