Friends and family remember famed rider, Johnny Longden. Less than a mile from the Santa Anita Park race track where much of his legendary status was built, Johnny Longden was honored in a funeral service at Church of the Good Shepherd.
Johnny Longden, the Hall of Fame jockey who rode Count Fleet to the Triple Crown in 1943 and was the first rider to win 6000 races, died on Feb. 14. Services will be held on February 24 at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Arcadia.
"Winner's Circle," Arcadia's float entry in the 1966 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, features an azalea covered blanket forming a huge arch over a fountain. In the winner's circle is Johnny Longden. A framed copy of this removed from wall outside Admin. office and currently stored in map case in basement, as of February 2017.
An Arcadia resident for 35 years and married 40 years to world famous jockey Johnny Longden, Hazel Longden was one of the first women to become a licensed horse trainer. She is the first woman to train a stakes winner at Santa Anita Park.

The District: District 27 encompasses parts of L.A. and San Bernardino counties including Pasadena, Arcadia, Rosemead, Glendora, and Claremont. Home to approximately 709,231 people, this district has been represented by Judy Chu (D-Monterey Park) since 2013. Most residents of District 27 are Asian (37.94%), White (29.22%), or Hispanic (26.88%).
