Arcadia High School's Marching Band, Tall Flags, and Tom Tom Drill Team took the Sweepstakes Award for street competition at the Mt. Carmel Invitational Tournament of Bands, October 24.
The Arcadia High School Apache Marching Band won the Sweepstakes Award at the annual state championship All-Western Band Review for the third consecutive year which earns them the perpetual trophy. This makes the third time they have won the perpetual trophy which goes to a school that has won the Sweepstakes Award three times in a row. This is a "first" in the All-Western Band Review.

The Arcadia Board of Education made firm its plans for the Junior High pupils. First Avenue 8th and 9th graders will attend classes on their own campus, while incoming 7th graders will be divided between Dana and Foothills junior high schools.

Richard Dana intermediate school to open doors for first time. It is the second educational plant serving 7th and 8th grades, the other being First Avenue School. Dana's first principal is Joseph Bagnall. The modern school was designed by Boyd Georgi and Lee Kline, the same architects who planned the buildings at Camino Grove Elementary. The State Department of Education has announced that Dana Junior High and Foothills Junior High have been nominated as Distinguished Schools in the 1987-88 California School Recognition Program.
Firemen have decided that the Memorial Day fire at First Avenue Junior High School was definitely the work of arsonists. All of the other possible causes have been eliminated.
