Mailbag topic-George "The Iceman" Woolf was a Canadian jockey famous for riding the great Seabiscuit to victories in 1938. The 35-year-old was unseated from his horse Please Me during a race on January 3, 1946, suffered a concussion and died the next day. He was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. Hall of Fame jockey and Sierra Madre resident Gary Stevens is doing well after a fall that injured his lung and shoulders at the Arlington Million. Stevens, in his first acting role, starred as George "The Iceman" Woolf in the Universal film, Seabiscuit. Stevens has won the Santa Anita Derby.

Santa Anita Park race track will unveil a 1000-pound bronze statue of popular race horse John Henry and a historical marker covering 75 years of the race track's history, as part of its 75th anniversary this Saturday. The bronze statue cost more than $100,000. The marker was done by the Arcadia Historical Society.

Peruvian jockey Rafael Bejarano joined horse racing royalty when he became the first rider since Laffit Pincay (in 1979-1981) to win three consecutive Santa Anita Park riding titles. He is 28 years old. He credits the late Bobby Frankel for opening doors for him in California. Bejarano is known to be loving, kind and never abusive to his horses. (Photos).

The Los Angeles Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to donate the Hugo Reid Family Statue to the city of Arcadia. The city will relocate the statue from Arcadia Community (County?) Park to the Ruth and Charles Gilb Arcadia Historical Museum. The article includes some history about Hugo Reid.
The Universal Studios film, Seabiscuit, based on the non-fiction book by Laura Hillenbrand, will be filmed at Santa Anita Park race track in November and December. Arcadia mayor Gail Marshall will be an extra on the film.
