The City Council approved a final agreement that may end the long dispute between Arcadia and Sierra Madre concerning the nearly $2 million cost of repairing and repaving Orange Grove Ave., a street that borders both cities.
At a Sierra Madre City Council meeting, Arcadia and Sierra Madre residents spoke against a joint plan by the two cities to widen Orange Grove Avenue to 40 feet.
A new RTD line (119) has been instituted between Arcadia and Pasadena. It covers the area from Lincoln Ave. to Washington Blvd., Altadena Ave. to Orange Grove, out to Baldwin and terminating at Fashion Park. Buses leave every 30 minutes on weekdays.
Orange Grove Avenue, which is the border between Arcadia and Sierra Madre, has a posted speed limit of 35 mph on the Arcadia side and 30 mph on the Sierra Madre side.
After more than 12 year of negotiations between Arcadia, Sierra Madre and LA County officials, Orange Grove Avenue will get new pavement, storm drains and sidewalks between Michillinda and Santa Anita Avenues.

Although the Arcadia City Council unanimously upheld a planning commission decision Tuesday night to permit the construction of a 97-unit retirement hotel at Michillinda Ave. and Sunset Blvd., an opponent said he plans to take court action against the project.
Camino Grove elementary teacher Patricia Ann Baltz will be one of 60 teachers profiled by the Disney Channel. 36 finalists will be culled from the 60 teachers profiled, and each will receive an honorarium of $2500. Disney will also award one additional cash prize of $25,000 to an "Outstanding Teacher of 1993." The teacher's school will receive $25,000 and the school district $10,000.

A continuous left turn lane will be provided in the center of Duarte Road from Lovell Ave. to Baldwin Ave., and directional left turn lights will be installed at the Baldwin and Duarte intersection. This was passed by the Council, requested by the West Arcadia Business and Professional Association.
Arcadia's Baldwin Stocker and Camino Grove elementary schools have earned "Distinguished School" designation from the California State Department of Education.

Volunteer aides make the Early Childhood Education program work. the State mandated and funded program aims at giving youngsters from pre-school through the 3rd grade better learning experiences. Camino Grove is the only school in the district with the pilot program.
Maha Hakim, 52, of Arcadia, was struck by a car in the 1100 block of Duarte Road at 3:30 PM on Friday, November 30, and died of her injuries at Huntington Memorial Hospital. She was attempting to walk across the road near Sunset Blvd.
