Arcadia, Monrovia, and Duarte schools all forced to lock down this week due to phoned in threats of a gunman on 4 separate campuses. On Thursday, September 12, the caller contacted Arcadia Police Department, reporting "he was at Arcadia High School and that he was going to start shooting students with an assault rifle." A second call was received during the police search of the campus that told officers to back off or they would be shot. No suspects of weapons were found.

Tranquility of Arcadia disrupted by barricaded gunman. Arcadia Police officer and two civilians wounded when police responded to a domestic violence call in the 2500 block of Greenfield Avenue in Arcadia. The suspect Nurhan Venk, 47, allegedly shot the Arcadia police officer in the face, allegedly shot his 73-year-old mother Ankine Venk. A stray bullet hit an 83-year-old man across the street.

Cherry Liu, a Sierra Madre City employee was murdered August 1 in a tragic murder-suicide in the 800 block of Sunset Boulevard in Arcadia. Her estranged husband Mel Liu died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Gregory Ramos, 18, of Downey was discovered unconscious in a jail cell at the Arcadia City Jail. A routine jail check revealed that Ramos had used his jail linen to fashion a noose in an attempt to strangle himself.

Two corporate executives found guilty in first-ever criminal prosecution for failure to report under the Consumer Product Safety Act. Simon Chu, 68, of Chino Hills, and Charley Loh, 65, of Arcadia, found guilty. They sold defective dehumidifiers manufactured by Gree Electric Appliances, Inc. of Zhuhai in China. Two Arcadia homes used for indoor marijuana growing operations. Warrants were served and arrests were made in the 1800 block of South Baldwin Avenue and the 300 block of West Woodruff. A third house, on the 2700 block of Gilpin Way, was discovered to be an indoor marijuana cultivation house, too.
