Grandstand and portion of track at Ascot Park, a racetrack built near the center of Los Angeles that offered racing from 1903-1907. It was closed due to a city ordinance forbidding gambling. Baldwin's track, Santa Anita Park, which opened in December 1907 was designed and built by the same architect that built Ascot Park: A.M. Allen. The two tracks are similar in style and are occasionally mistaken for each other. In this photo the stands are full and there are eight horses with jockeys on the track.

Baldwin Ranch groves looking north toward mountains. Also in photo is wooden irrigating trough on right, and a two-horse team hitched to light wagon, also a single horse with rider. It appears that present-day Henniger Flats is high flat mountain just above and to the left of the road. Also Hastings Ranch area would be low foothills. This photo belongs to the Huntington Library. View across swimming pool built for the men of Ross Field Balloon School by Anita Baldwin and the community. It was on possibly opening day as there are throngs of guests looking on. This was located where present parking lot of Elks building is located. H.F.Paden in 1978 told us there was also a pool formed of stone in what is now County Park area which was an officers' pool.
