Chapter officials say all services will continue, with help from staff from the Los Angeles and San Gabriel/Pomona Valley chapters. Arcadia City Council will not consider a temporary moratorium on any stage of residential development because they don't have enough votes (4 are required) to pass the proposed ordinance. A moratorium would have initially been in place for 45 days, with an option to extend it, while the city updates its residential and commercial standards and conducts a historic preservation survey.

Two passengers hurt in bus stabbing inside a Foothill Transit bus on October 31, shortly after 6:00 PM. The bus was on Live Oak Avenue, west of Myrtle Avenue, in unincorporated county area near Arcadia. Nicholas Patito, 51, a transient, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The two sounded male passengers, age 54 and age 24, have non-life threatening injuries.

Arcadia city officials are cracking down on "maternity tourism" boarding houses by dedicating a full-time police detective to investigate the issue. Maternity or birth tourism is a phenomenon in which women, often from China, pay a handsome fee to have their babies in the United States, so the children can be citizens. While that is not illegal, at least five establishments have been shut down for violations, such as unlawfully operating boarding house businesses in residential zones.

The Arcadia Educational Foundation (AEF) is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1981 in response to substantially reduced federal and state funding for California public schools, administered by parent and community member trustees, to raise funds for Arcadia Unified School District. AEF runs the annual summer school program, offers $25000 in teacher grants each year, funds district-wide phone and text communication system, and has also funded teacher positions due to state-wide budget cuts.

A Chevron gas station in Arcadia is charging $5.15 for premium gas. Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr., has directed the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to take emergency steps to increase the state's gasoline supply by selling the "winter blend" early, to bring down fuel prices. Gas prices have skyrocketed over the past week due to a shortage caused by shutdowns at Tesoro and Exxon refineries.
