Arcadia-based Dr. Terrence Baruch installs interactive monitors in Westfield Santa Anita mall to increase awareness of heart attacks and he hopes this leads to reduced lag time between the onset of symptoms and applying a key life-saving medical procedure. He is the "Heart Attack Blues" doctor and the director of Arcadia Methodist Hospital's Cardiac Catheterization Lab.

Arcadia High School Apaches went undefeated in the Pacific League Championships for the first time since 2003. They went on to play the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Finals for the first time in 40 years. In the end the Apaches lost by 3 points. Six years ago after severe winter rains, Cal FEMA gave several grants to cities responsible for the maintenance of the road to Chantry Flats north into the foothills from Arcadia. Monrovia is responsible for a small segment of that road, but it has not yet been repaired. Monrovia City Manager Scott Ochoa explained that the initial grant was insufficient to pay for the repairs.

Monrovia man Gerardo Cortez, 26, was arrested for allegedly making telephone threats to shoot adults and children with an assault rifle at schools (including Arcadia High School), the Westfield Santa Anita mall, and a hospital in the San Gabriel Valley last week. He was booked at Monrovia Police Department for five counts of felony Making Criminal Threats and five counts of False Report of an Emergency. He is to be arraigned today. Arcadia City Council takes steps to increase public safety. On October 16, City Council discussed a recommendation to add a measure to the ballot containing a ¾-cent sales tax, which is needed to help Arcadia with its current financial woes. The Citizens Financial Advisory Committee reviewed the city’s expenditures and asked the council to declare a state of fiscal emergency as soon as possible and no later than June 2019. The vote to add the measure passed almost unanimously, with one council member recusing themself from the vote.
