Dorothy was from Whidbey Island, WA and lived in Arcadia for at least 55 years. She worked as a nurse practitioner. Then, she wrote a column for the Arcadia Tribune for 22 years after a council person asked her to write it. She quit the column at age 90.

Shoemaker Al Yarter standing out in front of shops he built on North First Ave. The family lived in the house between the two shops. Mr. Yarter's grandson, Pat Carlin, told us in 1980 that Mr. Yarter bought the land from Anita Baldwin for a stated price. Later, he was told by an agent, that because the lot was within the lighting district, he would need to pay an additional amount. When Mr. Yarter spoke directly to Anita Baldwin about this, she said it had been her mistake and he would pay only what had been agreed upon. Groceries on the left and Arcadia Shoe Shop on the right.
Clara Baldwin Stocker is seen stepping out of a motor car. She is wearing a long light colored dress with no hat. Holding onto her left arm appears to be Walter McGinley, dressed in light colored suit, shoes and holding a hat. The car appears to be the same as photo #1570.
Mr. Dewey Butler is seen sitting on his tractor. The Mauch family knew him very well and he would use his tractor to turn the soil on their ranch as well as his own. This photo was taken at Mauch ranch at Palm Avenue and Holly Avenue. In a 1997 conversation between Carol Libby of the Arcadia Historical Society and Lynette Dunn, daughter of Dewey Butler, Mrs. Dunn stated that this photo is not of her father. She said it was possibly her uncle.

Brown shingled house with granite stone chimney and unique floor to ceiling windows by front entry. Brick terrace forms entry. Word persists from people in the area, that house was built by a former Cabinet Officer. A title search was done on the house for us in 1975: the one name on list of owners that is a possibility is MELLON. (In article written by Claire Charles and numbered #4 in Arcadia-Peacocks, on p.23, top of page, she mentions Annie Mellon as living in this house.) Address if 330 E. Duarte Rd. Built c. 1913.
