Children's Hospital Los Angeles opened a new outpatient services center at 468 E. Santa Clara Street in Arcadia on November 1. It is a 10,000 square feet facility with specialty services such as ophthalmology, pulmonology, lab and radiology services, pediatric surgery, orthopaedics, gastroenterology and ear, nose and throat. The outpatient clinic is open Monday through Friday.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn urges students to take advantage of the county's School Threat Assessment Response Team (START) program, which helps assess and respond to potential school threats. The campaign's tagline, "If it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't" was developed through focus groups at Saugus and Arcadia High Schools. Mary Chiu sued nursing home Arcadia Health Care Center for the negligent care that her mother Sui Mee Chiu received. In October 2013, an arbitrator ruled that Sui Mee Chiu had been a victim of elder abuse, negligence and wrongful death, and her daughter Mary Chiu was awarded more than half a million dollars. The investigation is still in progress and Public Health is inquiring into the cause of the delay in the final report and closure of this case.

Veterans Administration (VA) opens clinic medical offices in May in San Gabriel Valley, in Arcadia, eight years after a VA clinic closed in Pasadena. It is called San Gabriel Valley Community Based Outpatient Clinic and provides--on an interm basis--basic clinical services that do not require surgery, such as physical exams and X-rays. Veterans also will have access to primary care, mental health care, telehealth and basic lab services. It will remain operational for 3-5 years and eventually be replaced by a permanent, full clinic. It is at 7 West Foothill Boulevard.
