View south, perhaps from top of City Hall on Corner of First and Huntington Drive, to Arcadia Drive-In Market. Located on SW corner of the same intersection there was, in addition to the Service Station, a dry cleaners, a bakery, a fresh vegetable market, a meat market, a grocery store, and the Pines Cafe. First Avenue is street seen on the left.
Paul and Selma Backert, who operated a dry goods store at 221 N. First Avenue from at least 1928 to approximately 1940. They came to Los Angeles area in about 1890 and operated general merchandise stores in Newhall and Lancaster. They lived at 212 N. Myrtle in Monrovia.

Home at 1050 Paloma Drive is under construction. There is a car parked across the street. This home was built and owned by the Charles Francis Earl family. Construction began in late 1951, completed in early 1952. See also photo #1633.

Arcadia Feed & Seed Store located at 145 E. Huntington Drive and owned by Roy Pike and Donald A. Strawn. In 1981 this was called Better Gardens Nursery.

Santa Anita School Miss Fulvio's third grade classroom photo by Thompson Photo Service, Los Angeles (from the envelope which has been discarded). The school was located at 1900 South Santa Anita Avenue from about 1950 until June, 1981. In 1982, Arcadia Christian School moved in to this location.
Shopping Bag Market (which is listed in 1939 City Directory at 1225 S. Baldwin) and the West Arcadia Service Station (apparently owned at this time by Blake Smith and Bruce Wetmore), located at 1221 S. Baldwin.

Pat Carlin is the small boy standing with the tire in front of service station owned and operated by his father and his aunt, J.A. and M.A. Carlin on the NE corner of First and LaPorte. This building is the same one as shown in photo #490 and which served briefly as City Hall.
