The Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission called a public hearing to air their plan for a 1260 mile bikeway which would ultimately connect hundreds of miles of city and regional bike paths in the county.
Arcadia, along with other Foothill communities, received allotments from the Southern California Association of Governments for the purpose of building bicycle paths. Arcadia's share amounted to $8884.
Urban waterway renewal is underway on the Rio Hondo River which begins near Peck Road Park, southeast of Arcadia, flows into the Los Angeles River and eventually into the ocean.
A parkland plan proposes linking 17 miles of trails and natural habitat in an uninterrupted loop running through the heart of the San Gabriel Valley and Whittier area. The two rivers, the "strands" of the necklace, would culminate at Whittier Narrows and be linked at the top by a "clasp"--a trail running through Hanson Quarry. The entrance to Peck Road Water Conservation Park, a former gravel quarry located in Arcadia may be made more inviting under the plan.

The Planning Department hopes to get a marked and some-what protected bicycle path through the city that would link up with adjoining areas. The city has included $10,000 in the capital improvements budget for 1975-76.

A cooperative effort by the County Department of Parks and Recreation and the city of Arcadia will make possible the development of a segment of the LARIO bicycle trail in Arcadia joining the Peck County Park Fishing and Conservation Area and Live Oak Avenue.

About 25 bird carcasses infected with the West Nile virus have been found in or near Arcadia. Dead crows found along the San Gabriel and Rio Hondo rivers could indicate a major outbreak is on the way.
Arcadia has received $28,000 from the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission to develop a Santa Anita Wash Bikeway. Total cost is estimated at $72,000.
The newest park in the Arcadia area is the Peck Road Water Conservation Park at Live Oak and Peck Road. There will be fishing in the spreading basin of the Los Angeles County Flood Control District. This is a Los Angeles County Regional Park. Supervisor Peter Schabarum was on hand for the opening on June 23, 1975.
