Arcadia's First House -- Built in 1880 by O.D. Harris on what is now the corner of Colorado Boulevard at Santa Anita Avenue, this was reportedly Arcadia's first house. The initial meeting of the Arcadia Board of Trade was held here in 1914. The house was torn down in the 1950s.

View of front entry to what has been called the O.D. Harris house at 15 E. Orange Avenue (now, Colorado Boulevard). Title Insurance & Trust checked the heritage for us and found the building probably was built in late 1880's for Southern California Floral Farm & Perfumery Co. Building stood until 1962. As of 1980, an apartment building was on that location.
O.D. Harris home on NE corner, 15 E. Orange Avenue (later street name changed to 15 Colorado Blvd). It is listed in 1928 City Directory as on Orange Avenue address. House was demolished about 1960*. John "Jack" Ott, dressed in Indian Headdress is seen kissing the nose of an Indian pony (his daughter seemed to remember). Photo apparently was taken on north side of Anita Baldwin's home, Anoakia, shortly after it was completed. Mr. Ott was born in 1877 and came to Arcadia about 1907. He became City Marshal in 1914.

This photograph was published in the Arcadia Tribune, August 20, 1956 with the caption: Here comes mama--By all indications from this picture, it looks as if the children weren't the only ones who were having a good time at the recent Arcadia Recreation Department city-wide track meet. The Tribune camera caught Mrs. Mary Turner as she broke the tape in the "feature" race of the afternoon. Running a close second in the event is Mrs. John Panatier followed across the finish line by Mrs. Lucas.
