Four wheel drive truck with Cunningham winch used to get balloon aloft and back down and to keep them anchored. One truck for each balloon and had 1500 meters of heavy cable. Tires of truck were solid rubber. Note: ground line coming from truck near winch. This was to take care of static electricity generated along cable due to telephone in balloon. Baseball player, possibly Johnny Lindell, talking to a crowd of about 23 boys at an Arcadia Recreation Department event on a baseball field. Johnny Lindell grew up in Arcadia in the 1930s, went to Monrovia-Arcadia-Duarte High School and USC, before being signed by the Yankees. He was both a pitcher and outfielder, and played several years in the 1950s for the Hollywood Stars of the Pacific Coast League.
"June Bride," Arcadia's float entry in the 1963 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade features a garden wedding with a water lily pond, and two large trees in the garden with baskets of yellow roses hanging from them. A framed copy of this removed from wall outside Admin. office and currently stored in map case in basement, as of February 2017.
