British retail giant Tesco considers selling its struggling U.S. grocery market Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market. The El Segundo-based chain is losing money and Tesco has hired investment bank Greenhill to review options. Fresh & Easy has 200 stores in California, Nevada, and Arizona. Construction of a Vons Market west of Baldwin Avenue between Duarte Road and Naomi Avenue may depend on whether the East Pasadena Water Company accepts the City Council's proposal allowing the city to extend its line into the water company's territory at the western end of the Vons development. The East Pasadena Water Company's lines are too small to be effective in case of fire.

Jack in the Box officials blamed a food poisoning outbreak that led to one death and the hospitalization of at least 70 persons from Seattle to San Diego on a shipment of contaminated hamburgers traced to Arcadia-based Vons. Vons has denied its meat processing plant in El Monte was the source of the problem.
