The union for the Arcadia Police Department and the Arcadia City Council have reached an agreement. The contract gives officers a 24.4% increase in salaries and benefits over the next 4 years. The department is still down by 14 officers.
"Blind Justice," an 11-foot tall tile mural at the police station dating back to the 1950s, will not be preserved when the new police station is built. The mural was judged not to have significant artistic or historical merit. The mural will be archived, with some element maintained for display in the new building.
Arcadia Police Department launches Weibo page, a Chinese-based social media website, similar to Facebook and Twitter. Its participation on Weibo will enhance the department's ability to engage and communicate with a specific portion of the Arcadia community, with postings in simplified Chinese. Arcadia Police Department receives a $137,000 grant for a year-long program of special enforcements and public awareness efforts to prevent traffic-related deaths and injuries.
City of Sierra Madre police must find another way to deal with officer shortage after Arcadia balks at sharing officer. Sierra Madre officials had hoped Arcadia could help through a contract between the cities where one Arcadia officer would help patrol areas of Sierra Madre at night and backup would be available as needed. Receiving stolen property arrests aided by identification of items and social media. On February 21, Arcadia police arrested two female adults, Daijah D. Ellsworth and Rickeira T. Pearson, one juvenile female, and an adult male for stolen property in their car. Police connected the arrestees to a burglary in Palos Verdes using social media platform "Nextdoor."
GPS in bait package leads to arrest of two Canoga Park women who drove through Arcadia in a stolen car. The arrested women are Devon Ricco Menendez and Unique Rios. Why the Arcadia Police Department is reporting an overall crime decrease. This most recent quarter (May 1-July 31) has seen a reduction of 10.5% to 11% in residential burglaries compared to the same time period last year.
