Rowing on the lake in a boat named CLARA are Clara Baldwin Stocker (second from right), Lucky Baldwin's elder daughter; Clara's fourth husband, Harold Stocker (rowing); and several friends. A copy of this photo appears in the March 2, 1909 Los Angeles Daily Times pt.II p.8 with the following identification: FAMILY GROUP ON THE LAKE AT SANTA ANITA. Left to right, in boat - Mr. Mathews, Mrs. F.D. Black, Mr. Stocker ("Lucky's son-in-law), Mrs. H.C. Wyatt, in white; Mrs. Stocker (Lucky's daughter) and Mrs. Scott. There are seven people seated in the boat, but only six names are identified in the newspaper article. Article is in Arcadia History file Baldwin, Elias J. Volume I no. 1 issue of first Arcadia newspaper, THE ARCADIA BULLETIN. Paper included an article on the opening of Clara Villa which opened May 3, 1904. The paper has photos of five members of the Board of Trustees (now City Council) and also one of Arcadia's first City Marshall, Elmer Anderson and his brother, Charles Anderson, City Treasurer.

Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin on left and Richard F. Carman Sr., one of America's early horsemen. Photo was taken probably about 1907 and printed in newspaper of March 1937 at the time of Carman's death. Carman's horses won four races and placed second in two others on opening day of Baldwin's Santa Anita Race Track.

Mrs. Anita Baldwin McClaughry's entry in the 1915 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, "Dove of Peace," was 26 feet long with a wing span of 11 feet. The dove was covered with roses, lilies-of-the-valley, maiden hair fern and stevia serulata. It held an olive branch in its bill. It was the most costly float entered in the parade.

Lightly poised upon a single branch of acacia, a yellow butterfly emerging from its chrysalis heralded the 1915 Pasadena Tournament of Roses float for the City of Arcadia. The entry was designed by Mrs. Anita Baldwin McClaughry. Formed of yellow roses, marigolds and pom pom chrysanthemums, the butterfly is emerging from a chrysalis of gray-green foliage nine feet in length. This was the first official City of Arcadia entry in the Rose Parade.

"Ye Fairy of Ye Oak," 1915 Pasadena Tournament of Roses float entered by Mrs. Anita Baldwin McClaughry. Dextra McClaughry (age 13) and Baldwin McClaughry (age 10), children of Anita, rode on the float. Dextra, the Queen of Fairyland, stood beneath a spreading oak while the floor of the carriage was converted into a meadowland of softest green upon which shell pink roses, lilies-of-the-valley and hyacinths grew.

Shoemaker Al Yarter standing out in front of shops he built on North First Ave. The family lived in the house between the two shops. Mr. Yarter's grandson, Pat Carlin, told us in 1980 that Mr. Yarter bought the land from Anita Baldwin for a stated price. Later, he was told by an agent, that because the lot was within the lighting district, he would need to pay an additional amount. When Mr. Yarter spoke directly to Anita Baldwin about this, she said it had been her mistake and he would pay only what had been agreed upon.
