Thatched conical shaped roadside fruit stand with the name SLEMONS' ORANGE WIGWAM,ARCADIA,CALIF. According to 1930 City Directory, it was located at 141 E. Foothill Boulevard. (McDonalds address in 1993 is 143 E. Foothill.) Owner was James B. Slemons. Two people can be seen standing near entrance.

Rio Hondo Wash runs east to west across middle of photo.

Group of new arrivals at the Santa Anita Assembly Center for the Japanese prepare to unpack belongings into numbered quarters seen behind them. Three cars are being unloaded. About 16 Japanese can be seen in the vicinity. Pepper trees are seen in the area.

Twelve people are seen picking strawberries on the Mauch ranch at Palm Avenue and Holly Avenue. All are wearing hats. The large white-colored hangars still standing on the Balloon School property can be seen behind the trees in left half of photo.
Dewey Butler's Sweet Corn Stand is shown next to the Santa Anita Motor Inn, which opened in 1938. There are four cars parked in front of the stand. Hand written note in scrapbook states, "Dewey Butler's - Golden Bantam Corn, and Melon Stand on Huntington Drive just west of the Santa Anita Motor Inn. The Sweetest corn and melon's you ever tasted, grown in the matchless soil of Old Rancho Santa Anita."

Note training track in the center of photo. Beyond it can be seen houses in Santa Anita Village. This entire area became part of Fashion Park later. Phase I of Arcadia Public Library Renovation/Expansion Project at 20 W. Duarte Road. Trash cans turned upside down straddled the drainage pipe which was installed to drain water off the roof. This photo is taken from what used to be the Children's Room patio, looking toward the temporary front doors. The Friends of the Library 25cent booksale bookshelf is visible in the center of the photo. A television seen to the right played a fundraising video.

The Great Scot Restaurant built in Arcadia at 100 N. Santa Anita Avenue. It opened in March,1972. Beyond the restaurant the Towne Center Building of about 6 stories can be seen. It is at 150 N. Santa Anita Avenue.
