Authorities identify dead woman found slain at her home in Arcadia as 76-year-old Chyong Jen Tsai. Detectives are still looking for whoever killed the Arcadia grandmother and stole a white Lexus RX300 from the home in the 300 block of East Forest Avenue. Three weeks before the killing, her home had been burglarized. Detectives are not ruling out this connection to the homicide.

Patsy Chang Kote, a live-in housekeeper, was arrested Monday at the Arcadia home of Ruth LeBerthon on suspicion of elder abuse and grand theft after she admitted tricking the 92 year old woman in her care into cashing pension checks and then taking the money.

Arcadia police have seen an increase in "distraction burglaries" in recent weeks and advises residents not to open the door to strangers. In this type of crime, the burglar is invited into a home after gaining the trust of the victim. While talking to the victim or using some other ruse to distract the resident, a second person enters and burglarizes the home. This has happened on the 300 block of Joyce Avenue and on the 1400 block of Rodeo Road.

A jury convicted DeQiang Song, 24 of Monterey Park, of the kidnapping and attempted murder of a 21-year-old woman, who he knew through a mutual friend, after taking her on a trip to Westfield Santa Anita shopping mall in Arcadia on September 8, 2010. He then took her to a remote area of desert in San Bernardino County and bound her, strangled her, sliced her throat with a knife and left her for dead. She survived. Song asked the victim's father for $10,000 in ransom money. He will be sentenced April 26 in Alhambra Superior Court.

Arcadia resident in the 700 block of Camino Grove Avenue finds the body of a stranger in his swimming pool. The dead man is 35-year old Greg Tser-Ming Chen of Arcadia. Foul play was not initially suspected in the death. Chen's dog, a golden retriever, which was not on a leash, was found in the backyard too. A woman in her 60s turned in a grenade she found, in the garage of her former home in Glassell Park, to Arcadia Police. She is staying with friends in Arcadia. The explosive device was a live World War I hand grenade called a "Mills Bomb" commonly used by British military from 1915-1970s. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's bomb squad detonated the grenade on the lawn of the Arcadia Police Department, after placing it in a hole several feet deep with sandbags. Police advise anyone who finds an explosive device to not move it, but leave it in place and call the police.
