Dr. Ed Ryan, who is retiring after 14 years from his position as superintendent of Arcadia schools, has been appointed Director of the Institute for Research in Educational Administration at USC. Elbert E. Souders, associate superintendent of schools, has been appointed interim superintendent by the Board of Education. In accepting the two-year appointment, Souders will be replacing Edward V. Ryan who resigned to accept a position at USC.

Terrance M. Towner, former Pasadena resident and school superintendent in Los Gatos, will be next superintendent for the Arcadia Unified School District. The Arcadia Board of Education selected Towner after a 4-month search. He replaces Stephen Goldstone, who left in September to become superintendent with the Chino Unified School District. Mr. Towner will earn $91,000 per year.
Richard A. Hachten II, president and administrator of Arcadia's Methodist Hospital of Southern California, has submitted his resignation to the hospital board of directors. He has accepted the position of administrator of the Tri-City Hospital District in Oceanside as of November 1. Hachten was associated with Arcadia Methodist Hospital since 1972 and was president/administrator since March 1981.
The Arcadia Board of Education has begun the process of finding a new superintendent of Arcadia schools. Elbert Souders, current superintendent who announced his retirement last spring, will leave the district in June 1985. The Board has hired Dr. Elaine Boyce of School Services of California, Inc. to coordinate recruitment and selection process.
Dr. Stephen A. Goldstone was hired as the new superintendent for the Arcadia School District at a special meeting of the Arcadia Board of Education. Goldstone, currently employed as the superintendent of the Albany Unified School District near San Francisco, will begin his duties in Arcadia July 1, 1985.
The Arcadia Board of Education will be asked to approve criteria determining if segregation exists in local schools. A public hearing will then be held, and a report submitted to the State Dept. of Education.
James Romo, an education attorney and school district volunteer, has been selected to fill the vacant seat on the Arcadia School board. He will replace Michael Lamb, who resigned from the board last month.
Assistant Superintendent of Business Services for the Arcadia Board of Education, Dennis Chuning, has announced his resignation in order to take a position as Director of Business Services at Pasadena City College.
