20-year-old man Jason Scott Gustin found guilty of attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend in Arcadia. On August 22, 2016, according to testimony at trial, Gustin met near Arcadia and sat in his car to talk when he pulled out a knife and slashed her throat and then began strangling her. As the victim tried to escape, he stabbed her multiple times. She ran away to a nearby convalescent home. He was arrested a short time later after he showed up at his mother’s workplace in Arcadia.

Li Zhu, a 68-year-old Arcadia man suspected in the death of his daughter-in-law, Xiaolin Li, was found dead in his jail cell at Twin Towers Correctional Facility at 450 Bauchett Street in Los Angeles. Deputies found him hanging in his cell, in an apparent suicide.

Missing Arcadia firefighter Mike Herdman's lost dog has been found near the Dough Flats portion of the Los Padres National Forest, near the campsite where Herdman disappeared June 13. 23-year-old Arcadia man Joshua Martin Parra-Davis was booked by Arcadia Police on suspicion of possessing an explosive device and leaving it in a backpack near a Bank of America on Foothill Boulevard on Friday, January 14, 2011. Witnesses said Parra-Davis first went to Foothills Middle School and may have been trying to open classrooms when he was confronted and ran off. The suspect was then seen dropping a backpack in bushes near the Bank of America and then running through the parking lot, where officers detained him. Arcadia Police called the bomb squad. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Bob Squad successfully detonated the device. Parra-Davis could be arranged in Pasadena Court today.

An 18-year-old male was stabbed to death at a strip mall in the 1300 block of S. Golden West Avenue in Arcadia. Juan Lorenzo, age 31, and Jose Antonio Cruz Ramirez, age 26, both of San Gabriel, were arrested and booked on murder charges. Both suspects work at Money Pot Shabu Shabu Restaurant.

Six years ago after severe winter rains, Cal FEMA gave several grants to cities responsible for the maintenance of the road to Chantry Flats north into the foothills from Arcadia. Monrovia is responsible for a small segment of that road, but it has not yet been repaired. Monrovia City Manager Scott Ochoa explained that the initial grant was insufficient to pay for the repairs.

The body of missing Arcadia firefighter Mike Herdman was found yesterday by rescuers in the Sespe Wilderness, after disappearing on June 13. He was identified by dental records. Body was found 1,200 feet above the Sespe River Bottom, where he and fellow Arcadia firefighter Taylor Byars were camping. He is survived by a wife, Bridget Herdman, and 6-year-old daughter.
