About 3000 shoppers attended the opening ceremonies of the 6th Nordstrom's store in the Los Angeles area. Seattle-based Nordstrom has grown into a 77-store chain in 14 states with $3.58 billion in sales last year.
Nordstrom's Department Store is scheduled to open in August 1994, while 20 specialty shops and a 292-seat food court will open in October, 1993. The $34.3 million expansion is expected to generate about $1 million in sales tax revenue each year, as well a create 250 retail jobs.
Nordstrom's due to open August 26 at the Santa Anita Fashion Park, will employ 300 to 400 people and provide the city with an estimated $500,000 in annual sales tax revenue.
H & M, a fashion retailer, will open a store at Westfield Shoppingtown Santa Anita on December 14, 2006. The store will have fashions for men, women, teens, and lingerie.
A class action lawsuit is allegedly underway against Safeway Inc. The claim is that a store manager at one of their locations was peeping at women in the restroom. Carpenters Local 409 also claim Vons has been negligent in paying standard wages to carpenters.
