Stone house at 58 W. Grandview. Small girl in foreground possibly Dextra Baldwin. Anita Baldwin purchased 22 acres of her father's land for $10.00 on March 8, 1892. (see Arcadia VF-Baldwin, Anita) Anita's father built stone cottage in May 1902 on lot 7 and part of lots 8&9 in block 98 of Santa Anita Tract. (This information came from Mrs. Sharlene Cartier, who owned the house in 1973.)

Large stone Maltese Cross erected on the Baldwin Ranch by Anita Baldwin, marking graves of the four American Derby winners owned by her father, Elias J."Lucky" Baldwin. The cross and horse's graves are now situated at the Santa Anita Race Track. There is a sign with all details of horses' names and races won.

Mr. Dewey Butler is seen sitting on his tractor. The Mauch family knew him very well and he would use his tractor to turn the soil on their ranch as well as his own. This photo was taken at Mauch ranch at Palm Avenue and Holly Avenue. In a 1997 conversation between Carol Libby of the Arcadia Historical Society and Lynette Dunn, daughter of Dewey Butler, Mrs. Dunn stated that this photo is not of her father. She said it was possibly her uncle.

Shoemaker Al Yarter standing out in front of shops he built on North First Ave. The family lived in the house between the two shops. Mr. Yarter's grandson, Pat Carlin, told us in 1980 that Mr. Yarter bought the land from Anita Baldwin for a stated price. Later, he was told by an agent, that because the lot was within the lighting district, he would need to pay an additional amount. When Mr. Yarter spoke directly to Anita Baldwin about this, she said it had been her mistake and he would pay only what had been agreed upon. Mrs. Clara Baldwin Stocker and W.T. McGinley, her business manager, pictured probably about 1890. Article this was copied from related to son of Clara, Albert E. Snyder and daughter, Rosebudd Mullender, accusing McGinley in September of 1929, of getting thousands of dollars in gifts and property from their mother through fraud.

Seated at left is Dextra Baldwin Hopper, great granddaughter of E. J. "Lucky" Baldwin (daughter of Baldwin M. Baldwin). Seated at right is Rozella Baldwin Gilmore, an illegitimate daughter of E. J. "Lucky" Baldwin. Her mother was Martha Agnes Fowler, who was acknowledged in Baldwin's will.

Alfred Paredes of AP Sculpture Studio is the sculptor (wearing shorts and cap), standing to the right, of the Lucky Baldwin statue called "A Dawn in the West." Photo was taken after the patina was completed at Art Bronze Foundry in Burbank, CA. The two on the left of the statue are artisans who applied the patina. The statue is now located at the Reverend Monsignor Gerald M. O'Keeffe Rose Garden near the Arcadia Community Center at 365 Campus Drive. Printed on inkjet from a JPEG file.
