19 officers are in hangar at Ross Field in Arcadia as part of their training as Reserve Officers Balloon Personnel. J.H. Hoeppel in white shirt is on the right (kneeling). Lt.C.P. Kane, was in charge of the class. He is 4th man from left (next to balloon) in second row.
About ten thoroughbreds and jockeys, round turn toward finish of a race at Santa Anita Park. San Gabriel Mountains loom up behind. One can tell that this is early years of the track because of the dust kicked up by horses. Later, track was completely excavated and new improved mixture was put in place.

Baldwin Ranch greenhouse located south of the Adobe, is pictured behind a row of whitewashed granite boulders. By 1905, these boulders lined all interior ranch roads. Baldwin's initials, E.J.B., are lettered in stone in front of the greenhouse.
