This appears to be intersection of Las Tunas and Temple City Blvd. Building seen at top of photo is probably Vernon's Pharmacy of Temple City, located on NW corner of this intersection. There is a companion photo to this photo, #643. Vera Van Iaawarden, who lives in Temple City, says her father believes this was a balloon ascension.

The location has been identified as near intersection of Las Tunas Drive and (with what seem to be railroad tracks in center) Temple City Boulevard. The building (we see only roof) in the lower left corner is Vernon's Pharmacy. The letters VGS can be seen over front entry. There are probably about 100 autos parked nearby. Almost square building standing under tall Eucalyptus trees with sign across front reading: ARCADIA INN,WM. JOHNSON PROPRIETOR. According to information given to Sandy Snider at the Arboretum in a telephone interview with Vesta Reeves, this was known as Johnson's Inn and was on the SE corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.

"Arcadia Salutes Australia's Waratah's Festival," Arcadia's float entry in the 1970 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, features an abstract free-form reminiscent of an English coach. At the forefront is a royal blue peacock. To the rear are kangaroos, koala bears and lyre birds. A framed copy of this removed from wall outside Admin. office and currently stored in map case in basement, as of February 2017.

Bob Merget, on left, and helper Torval Yates pictured in front of Merget's Malt Shop located at 111 E. Huntington Drive, where Bank of America was located until its move to N. Santa Anita. It was a tradition on May Day that free cones were given out to all youngsters, according to information given by former residents.
Boxer on the left is "Birdleg Collins," who had a professional fight here in Arcadia February 11, 1909. This information was provided by Dave Coapman who collects information on boxers and boxing. Other boxer not identified.

In this view we are on ranch property looking west through gate toward town of Sierra Madre. Tall eucalyptus are on Santa Anita Avenue. Car is driving through stone-based pillars of gate. Wistaria vine in blossom covers frame over entry.
"Evangeline," Arcadia's float entry in the 1937 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, featured a garden scene from the famous poem with the orchard made of branches strung with sweet peas to represent apple and peach trees. Evangeline and Gabriel were seated on a bench of bronze chrysanthemums next to a picket fence made of white chrysanthemums. Builder was Garbet.
"Follow Your Dreams," Arcadia's float entry in the 1978 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, features a floral rainbow with 30,000 spinning discs. The Arcadia Rose Court rides on the float. Festival Artists.

Four wheel drive truck with Cunningham winch used to get balloon aloft and back down and to keep them anchored. One truck for each balloon and had 1500 meters of heavy cable. Tires of truck were solid rubber. Note: ground line coming from truck near winch. This was to take care of static electricity generated along cable due to telephone in balloon.
