Description: Arcadia's First Racetrack -- Known locally as "The Old Baldwin Racetrack," Santa Anita Park opened December 7, 1907 at the site of today's Santa Anita Golf Course. This racetrack represented the realization of Lucky Baldwin's greatest ambition. "I desire no other monument," said Baldwin when the first day's races at his new track had been run. "This is the greatest thing I have ever done, and I am satisfied." In 1909, horseracing was banned throughout the State. Santa Anita Park closed on April 17, 1909. In 1912, the grandstand burned.

Description: Jones House -- William Jones, who had owned a music store in Los Angeles, moved to Monrovia where he built this "showplace"; it contained two pipe organs, and several pianos. The property was willed to one of the Claremont Colleges by Mrs. Jones; the house has been torn down.

Description: Unruh House -- The second house in Arcadia, built in 1888, was located on several acres of land near Huntington Drive and First Avenue. This was the home of Hiram Unruh, Lucky Baldwin's ranch manager. The house was torn down in 1945.

Description: Arcadia Santa Fe Station -- Originally located at First Avenue and St. Joseph Street, the Arcadia Railroad Station was built in 1887 by the Santa Fe Railroad. This is the artist's conception of the station as it might have appeared in the early 1900s, complete with gables, turrets and cupolas. The wood-frame, three-room structure was built to provide passenger service to and from Los Angeles. In later years, it was used exclusively for freight. In 1971, the building was moved to the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds in Pomona, where it was restored.
