Mrs. Ola Sullivan, who's husband J. H. Sullivan has been in charge of the restoration of the Queen Anne cottage, presented a talk to the Arcadia Woman's Club on "The History of Nails." She gave each member in attendance a hand-wrought iron nail and piece of wood from the original Queen Anne Cottage, bound together by ribbon.

Queen Anne Cottage --Located beside the natural lake in what is now the Arboretum, this guesthouse was designed and built in 1885 by Albert A. Bennett, the father of Baldwin's fourth wife. Before the cottage was completed, Baldwin and his fourth wife separated, and the cottage became a memorial to the third Mrs. Baldwin, who had died in 1881. The Cottage served as the Baldwin guesthouse on the Ranch. The Queen Anne Cottage was formally dedicated as a State Historic Landmark in 1954.

Historical information on Baldwin Lake, the four-acre body of water that adjoins the Queen Anne Cottage in the historical section of the Los Angeles County Arboretum, is presented. The history of lake extends from time of the Native Americans (they called their village Aleupkigna), to Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin's ranch in 1873, to the movies and television shows in which it has appeared. Baldwin Lake played host to movie stars Johnny Weismuller, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. The lake has appeared in Safari, Roots, and Fantasy Island. See also VF "Arboretum" for hard copy of article.
